The default is 238 words per minute — the average for adult silent reading of general prose.
Does it count characters or words?
Word count splits on whitespace. Reading time derives from the word count.
Can I use this for speaking time?
Speaking is slower (~130 wpm). Halve the reading estimate for a rough speech duration.
Does formatting affect the count?
